One thing you cannot take from Vice admiral Ibas Ete is the fact that he is a highly trained military top brass .
A very intelligent one for that matter. from the data we have seen , he didn’t just rise to become Chief of Naval staff by mere political connection or patronage . He rose through the ranks and file , based purely on competence and merit.
He is way above the league of the very uncooked individuals who make up the Rivers state house of Assembly. That’s why he played them like a fiddle.
As a very calculative and cunning man , he paid them all allowances , and smartly included their Constituency project funds, which he paid in full, even when he knew they were on suspension, a constraint that will prevent them from executing the projects. He knew they will chop the money and chop it blindly.
He didn’t stop at that. Seeing they have fallen for the first bait , and knowing that he was dealing with shallow minded individuals, he gifted them brand new Prado jeeps just a few days to his exit and they caught the bait with an open mouth.
He threw the net and they all fell into it yakata . They didn’t have the presence of mind to decode that they were being manipulated and played. Ibas set before them a game of chess , and they played it like ludo.
Is it Hon Chukwuokike Abiama who cannot even present a motion , or Rt Hon Martin’s Amaewhule whose legislative know-how does not go beyond saying ” Constitution as Ammended” that will have the presence of mind to know that they were being played.
Now that Ibas the master chess player has played them with a Greek gift , their very own share of the Rivers windfall, and dared them to probe him , where will they borrow the moral compass to commence the probe ?
Ibas boldly dismissed their resolution to probe as “futile, misguided, and an exercise in legislative overreach”. He then crowned it with a timeless punchline” A f00ls errand ” . He treated them with total contempt and condescension , knowing fully well that they have sold their right to even make an echo .
Ibas is possibly somewhere serene in Abuja whining his mouth with kilishi and Dalmore whiskey while our assembly members searches for courage to embark on that very F00ls errand.
Let this be a lesson that you can’t eat your cake and still have it. If you fail to put the interest of your state first , outsiders will play and use you to achieve their own interest.
